Union’s new wireless network is now live in Fremont County. The launch adds 18 new sites, encompassing a 3,200-square-mile area from Lander to Riverton and Pavillion to the Natrona County line. Included in the launch is a new site in Lander that enhances voice calling and data transmission speeds in the city.
The new sites in Fremont County augment builds in Carbon, Uinta, Daggett, Lincoln, and Sublette Counties. This multi-year, state-wide effort has resulted in VoLTE coverage across 33,000 square miles of Union’s service area – equivalent to the size of Maine.
VoLTE, which stands for Voice over LTE, facilitates voice calls across 4G and 5G LTE networks. In addition to enhanced service in Wyoming, newer phones compatible with this technology are also better suited for seamless roaming on other networks throughout the US.
“VoLTE provides wireless service to meet the needs of today’s consumer,” says Brian Woody, Chief Customer Relations Officer for Union. “It provides crystal clear voice calls, better connectivity, and accommodates the fast transmission of large amounts of data.”
Union Telephone Company, founded in 1914 by John D. Woody, expanded into wireless communication and data services in 1990. Over the last decade, Union has invested $39 million to build a fiber network to provide high-speed internet service to underserved rural communities throughout southwest Wyoming. Union Wireless has over 300 company-owned towers, nine retail locations, and agents in Wyoming and Northwestern Colorado.
