Lifeline - An Affordable Telecom Service

Lifeline Infographic

Union Wireless strives to meet the needs of everyone in the community, including disadvantaged groups and individuals. The Lifeline program is just one aspect of this effort. For some, access to basic telephone service is out of reach.

What is Lifeline?

Lifeline is a federally administered financial assistance program that provides affordable communications services to low-income households. Lifeline provides subscribers a discount on monthly telephone or broadband services. The discounts will help ensure that low-income consumers can afford 21st-century telecommunications. Union is one of only a few providers in the area that participate in this program.

However, the program is not free, but does afford the eligible candidate to receive a $9.25 discount off either a landline phone or wireless service package of your choice. Eligibility is based upon participation in one or more of the following programs:

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (Food Stamps or SNAP)
Supplemental Security Income
Federal Public Housing Assistance (Section 8)
Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program
Temporary Assistance to Needy Families
National School Lunch Program's Free Lunch Program
Bureau of Indian Affairs General Assistance
State assistance programs (if applicable)
Tribally-Administered Temporary Assistance for Needy Families
Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations
Head Start (if income eligibility criteria are met)

Who is eligible?

Economic Unit >> all adult individuals contributing to and sharing in the income and
