Robocall Blocking

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT ROBOCALL BLOCKING

In 2019, Americans were inundated with 58.5 billion robocalls, which was an increase of 22% from the 47.8 billion calls received in 2018. Unwanted robocalls are the largest source of consumer complaints to the FCC and the FTC.

Union Telephone Company (Union), as your service provider, believes your phone should allow calls only from people welcomed or previously agreed to by you, and our goal is to reduce customer frustration and increase customer satisfaction.

Union has partnered with TNS (Transaction Network Services) to provide you with a robocall filtering solution designed to reduce the number of robocalls on your Union service, while allowing legitimate calls to pass through to you. This robocall blocking effort is free of charge.

Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT ARE ROBOCALLS?

Robocalls are fraudulent calls (generally an automated prerecorded message) that contact a large number of people directly and which are unwanted and can be potentially dangerous.

HOW DOES ROBOCALL FILTERING WORK?

The system continually seeks to identify and block the following types of unwanted calls:

  1. Robocalls – Unwanted pre-recorded messages from computer-generated dialers
  2. Fraud - Live calls from scammers trying to get personal information, such as your Social Security number or banking details
  3. Other - Calls confirmed as dangerous, spam, or otherwise unwanted

ARE ALL ROBOCALLS BEING BLOCKED?

The simple answer is no. Some calls that may appear as robocalls are helpful, like appointment confirmations and public notices, while others are meant to cause harm. Union strives to block the harmful robocalls. Despite Union’s best efforts, spoofers can be especially difficult to block due to the various methods they use to hide the originating telephone number.

WHAT TYPE OF CALLS WILL UNION BLOCK?

Union’s call-blocking solution aims to block as many calls made with malicious intent as possible. These calls could potentially invade your privacy and subject you to identity theft, money scams and other forms of fraud.

HOW CAN I REPORT MALICIOUS ROBOCALLS?

If you want to report a robocaller, spoofer or scammer, feel free to add your number to the Nationwide Do Not Call Registry at www.donotcall.gov. If you receive an unwanted call after your number has been on the National Registry for 31 days, report it to the FTC here .
